Overview
The Health Services CAM is a two-year program in which students explore career options in the health field. Students can choose between two strands of emphasis: The Clinical Strand or the Personal Fitness/Exercise Science Strand. The Junior year emphasizes career exploration, introduction to the basic health care principles, First Aid and CPR certification, legal and ethical issues involved in the health care field, and participate in clinical rotations at Sacred Heart hospital. Medical Terminology for college credit is taught in the second semester of the Junior year. In the Senior year students develop skills and advanced knowledge related to their internship of choice. Development of a portfolio and completion of a Service Learning Project are also included.
On the next page is a flow chart that explains the career pathway of choice for each student. Teacher meets with each student in their Junior year to plan their individual goals and courses for success in the Health Services CAM.
**Students must pass all required CAM courses with a B average or higher in order to receive the Health Services Certificate of Advanced Mastery.

JUNIORS — REQUIRED COURSES:

Prerequisites: Health and Medical Services SLC (formerly WIN), Health & Family, or Personal Health and Fitness
This course is an introduction to basic health care principles. Students will explore the health care system, ethical and legal issues, qualities of the health care worker, basic clinical skills, and First Aid and CPR certification. Clinical rotations at Sacred Heart and job shadows within the health care field are also included in this course.

Prerequisites: Medical Foundations or teacher approval
This class will give students the opportunity to master the language of medicine. Students will participate in various activities to gain mastery in pronunciation as well as word usage. Class is open to non-CAM students with teacher approval. College Now credit through LCC is available with a B or higher.

Prerequisite: Enrollment in the Health Services CAM
This course is an advanced course designed for those students in the Health Services CAM. Students will learn about body structure, foundations and components of the human body. The physiology portion of the course addresses how the body systems work together to maintain the health of the entire person. Students will also explore diseases related to each of the body systems. This course is linked with the other health services courses medical foundations and medical terminology.
JUNIOR YEAR SELECTIVES:
Students enrolled in the Health Services CAM must take the following in order to receive the Certificate of Advanced Mastery in Health Services. Grade must be a B or higher in each course to earn the CAM.

Advance Health Occupations is an advanced course that builds on Medical Foundations, Medical Terminology and Human Anatomy and Physiology. Emphasis will be placed on advanced skills and knowledge needed for successful internships. Topics include career related learning skills, advanced clinical skills, and development of personal portfolios.

The Health Services Senior Seminar is the culminating class in the CAM pathway. Students complete a 25-hour internship, complete personal portfolios and a Service Learning Project that includes development of the Career Related Learning Standards.
