Military

The Career Center is a resource for those students interested in the Armed Services. Brochures and other information about each of the branches are available. Career Center Advisors can help students learn more about their military options, including enlistment, academies, ROTC programs, and entering as a commisioned officer.
Each Winter, the ASVAB test (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is offered at Churchill. The test is required for entrance into the military. Interested students can get more information and sign up in the Career Center.

A special Note on Military Recruiting for parents:

Armed Forces Recruiter Access to Students & Student Recruiting Info
The "No Child Left Behind Act of 2001" passed certain new requirements with respect to Armed Forces Recruiter Access to Students and Student Recruiting Information:

1. Duty to Provide Information to Military Recruiters. Unless the parent otherwise request, the District must provide upon request by military recruiters access to high school student's names, addresses and telephone listings.

2. Consent. Either the high school student or the parent of the student may request that the student's name, address and telephone listing not be released without the prior parental consent. Schools are required to notify parents of this option to make a request and shall comply with the request.

3. Access to Students. Each district shall provide military recruiters the same access to high school students as is provided generally to higher education institutions, community colleges, and prospective employers.

If you do not want your student's name, address and telephone listing released to Armed Forces recruiters, YOU CAN WRITE A LETTER TO THIS EFFECT, or YOU CAN SEND AN EMAIL TO roseta@4j.lane.edu.

Your statement of objections will be placed in your child's records, and we will not release this information to military recruiters without your written consent. Please contact BJ McCoy at 687.3425 or email mccoy_b@4j.lane.edu if you have questions about this new Federal Policy.
