The minutes were voted and approved with a correction on the wording of the second motion and it was sent to Superintendent Russell and the school board.
The motion now reads:
The Churchill High School Site Council supports Superintendent
George Russell's recommendation to the school board to cap regional
transfers from the different high schools, ensuring a minimum and
maximum number of students at each school. We also support the
superintendent's proposal to distribute additional resources to
schools with higher proportions of low SES, ELL and Special Education
students. We feel these measures support equity throughout the
district and help to preserve the unique academic programs at
each school.
Sara H. will bring treats next time.
Deon announced that IHS was awarded the Goldman Sachs Excellence in Education. In the past privates school have won, but this year IHS in Eugene took the award and they received $25,000. Congratulations!
Mike had some questions regarding concerns he has brought to Operations, he feels that the majority of the time the response to his concerns are been misread or not understood. Site council said to continue to ask for a response!
. Health Center
We went into a deep discussion about if the health center not providing basic services for students at CHS. We would like to clarify what the role of the health center was and is now. Students have been not getting help from the Health center so they go to the front office which has created a little bit of chaos.
. Feminine Hygiene
Should we provide feminine hygiene products in the girl’s school bathroom? The health clinic used to do this but they are not always available for the students. There should be machines that can provide this. Doug will call other schools to find out how the health clinic is working and if they have feminine stuff in the bathroom.
Teachers cannot provide medicine to students and students can carry only a one day supply.
. Eugene Education Fund Monies
Site Council allocates where general EEF money goes. There is money left (about $6000) we need to spend it in a timely fashion. In last Joint meeting there were some departments that needed to cut their budget, we should look at this and see what is the most important and use the money to help those departments. Can we put that on the agenda for next meeting?
Brett went back to the students who organized Mr. Lancer and asked them about our concerns of how Children’s Miracle Network spends money. The two girls [Allie B. & Olivia J.] who are in charge of Mr. Lancer reported that they have an agreement with Sacred Heart Hospital of where the money goes. They do not want to change it.
A long discussion followed about the benefit to leadership to investigate, be aware of where the money that they raise goes, and evaluate their goals periodically. It was also suggested that money might go to a local organization. Then we decided that those [leadership students] in charge should research Children’s Miracle Network and discuss their findings with site council.
Mr. Lancer Dodge-ball game earned some money and it was a good game.
There is a lot of planning going on like club fair, spring fest, prom etc.
We went over the recommendations of the staff on the first two goals; one suggestion made was making sure that MLA standards were included in goal 1.22.
Goal 3.1 Doug reported that PBS is doing great
3.21 We decided to delete “begin to” and add “start implementing”. Then we discussed advisory and how is going to be implemented in the school. The advisory group has been working with the staff on these questions. The goal is to have the staff work together to implement advisory that will fit the climate of the school.
Julia voiced that we need to come up or bring back the idea of the help center for the students here at CHS.
We talked about how goal 3.41 should be high priority because of the importance of culture sensitivity; it should be implemented across the curriculum.
