Lancer Parent Association

Lancer Parent Association (LPA) is the parent group formed to connect with and support parents and guardians of all Churchill students. LPA is a great way to connect to CHS administration, to sports and clubs, and to other parents. LPA is free and open to any interested parent, guardian, or family member of a CHS student or any Churchill community member. We meet at 6:30 on the first Monday of each month in the library, except for September.

Here is the schedule for the fall:

• September 15: Parent meeting with guests Principal Dennis Biggerstaff and Athletic Director Tim Carmichael
• October 6: Parent meeting, no guest speaker
• November 3: Parent meeting with guest Counselor Betsy Hoell on the Career Center and Scholarships
• December 1: Parent meeting, no guest speaker

One of the LPA’s goals is to create community through communication. In addition to parent meetings, we also create an annual student directory. Parents who used last year’s directory have found it to be a very handy way to get in touch with other parents. These are for sale for $3 - look for them in the back-to-school fee form included in the G'Lancer.  If you purchase one using the fee form, it will be mailed to you when it is ready shortly after the beginning of the school year. Look for directories at the Open House in October as well. An opt-out form for the directory has been inserted into the back-to-school G'Lancer. It is very important to us that we do not include people who do not want to be included. Please complete the opt-out form if this is the case for you.

In addition to the directory, LPA also provides an e-newsletter for parents. Subscribe to this informative bi-weekly e-mail by: 1) Send an e-mail to chslpaenews-subscribe@npogroups.org (nothing isrequired in the subject or body of the message).

Late Start Blue Day

Seniors:

Congratulations on your last regular school day.  You still must remember a few things:

1.    Senior breakfast on Friday morning, 8:00am at the Hilton Hotel.

2.    MANDATORY graduation rehearsal Friday morning at 9:30am sharp at the Hult Center.  You must be present in order to participate in the graduation ceremonies.

3.    Graduation ceremony – Be at the Hult Center by 6:15pm Friday night.

The Baccalaureate graduation ceremony will be held tonight, at 6:00pm at Valley Covenant Church.  All grads and their families are invited to this optional religious ceremony.

Library:

Seniors – All textbooks are due today.

Freshman Advisors:

Be sure to look for your summer letter coming in early August and mark August 14^th on your calendars for your retreat.  If you can’t make the retreat see Julie or Cindy Sainz.

Cafeteria Ladies:

There will be a school Bar-B-Que Monday!  Regular lunch prices apply.

Next Friday, there will be auditions for Churchill’s fall performance of “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown”.  If you want to audition for this fun piece of musical theatre, prepare a song and show up in the Auditorium on Friday the 13^th after school.  Be prepared to read a monologue.  More information in the Choir room.

Lacrosse:

All Lacrosse players:  There is a team meeting TODAY at lunch in room J-24, Coach Stoddart’s room.  This is important, so please attend.

All senior powderpuff players – Sweatshirts have been designed and if you want one, please see Cindy in the Activities Office.  Make sure to bring a check for $24.00 by Friday.  Don’t have your order in, no sweatshirt.

Football:

Spring Football starts Monday at 4:00pm.

Seniors who could not make the first Audition for Graduation Performances should meet with Mr. Biggerstaff today right after school in the Auditorium.

Wrestling:

If you are interested in wrestling next year there will be a meeting Tuesday in the gym.  Pizza will be provided.

Girls Golf:

Girls Golf will have a meeting today in the Career Center at lunch.  Banquet plans have changed, and you need to hear the new info.

Career Center:

Program assistants are needed  for Mount Pisgah Arboretum’s Summer Outdoor Adventure Camp.  Work a minimum of 2 weeks assisting counselors with nature studies, crafts, hiking trips and lots more camp fun!  A great way to get community service hours.  Camp dates are June 23^rd to August 1^st.  Please come to the Career Center for more information.

Job Corps Opportunities:

Are you undecided about what to do this summer?  Do you want a better paying job? An experience to jump start your career?  To get paid while you learn?  Then come to the Career Center on Monday at 1:00pm to hear about Job Corp opportunities. See you there.

Summer School:

4J Summer School applications have arrived in the Counseling Center.  If you intend to go to summer school please stop by an get your application and a list of classes offered.  There is also information about on –line summer school options if interested check with any of the counselors.
