Accessing Gwen from home
| File Access while you're away from Churchill |
You can use File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to access your files from anywhere. Free Mac and PC programs are available. FireFTP (Firefox required) is probably the easiest, and it works on both PC and Mac. Here is how to get FireFTP:
1. Once connected to the internet (ex. Firefox, Internet Explorer) type "
addons.mozilla.org" in the adress bar
2. When you arrive at the page type in the search box "FireFTP" and click the search button
3. Once the search is complete, find "FireFTP" and click the "Add to FireFox" button
4. Wait for the download to complete, and click the "Install Now" button
5. Wait for the install to complete, and click the "Restart FireFox Now" button
6. After Firefox restarts, go to the menu bar and click Tools, then FireFTP
7. Once FireFTP loads, click the "Manage Accounts" button
8. Enter the following information:
Account Name: homes
Host: gwen.chs.lane.edu
Login/Password: leave blank
9. Click OK
10. Click the "Connect" button to the right of the "Manage Accounts" button
11. Enter your 4J username and password
12. Click OK
You can now drag and drop (i.e. copy) files between your computer and gwen, the Churchill server.
